Opinion – Cannabis Inc.: Governor has until February to sign cannabis law into law

by

Allied with former president Jair Bolsonaro, current governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) has until February to sanction (or not) PL 1,180, of 2019, which establishes the state policy of free supply of CBD (cannabidiol, a substance derived from cannabis, without psychoactive effect) by the SUS (Unified Health Service). The new regulation was approved by Alesp (Legislative Assembly of São Paulo) at the end of December.

However, publication in official diary came out this January (12). From this date, according to Alesp’s internal regulations, the governor has 15 working days to manifest. It is worth knowing whether Freitas will follow his mentor, who is against the regulation of cannabidiol, or will act like a statesman who thinks about the health and well-being of the population. For many cases, especially rare diseases such as epilepsy CBD is the only viable form of treatment. Let’s wait.
