Mosialos-SKAI: Omicron to prevail in a few weeks- We may see a local lockdown

by

It is a matter of a few weeks for the Omicron mutation to prevail in our country as well, the professor at LSE and representative of Greece in international fora, Elias Mosialos, said while speaking to SKAI, pointing out that we could not rule out the application of local licenses in the near future.

At the same time, the professor pointed out that 10 to 20% of the cases in our country at the moment are of the Omicron variant.

“We did not have the intensity of the pandemic wave that we expect now with Omicron, that is, to stick too much,” the professor pointed out, adding that those responsible should process the data that will emerge in the coming days and “based on how its intensity will develop. the timing of the measures should be decided “.

“If we see that we have a milder version, in the coming days in relation to the number of cases and a small burden on the health system, obviously the schedule changes.”

In any case, the professor stated that this excludes in January the taking of even more difficult measures than those that have been announced “but always with prudence”

“It could be a local lockdown, for example, if needed somewhere,” he said.

According to Mr. Mosialos, the overnight hospitalization due to Omicron is 40 to 70% less than in Delta.

Perhaps this is due to the fact that mainly young people have become ill, many are now fully vaccinated or have been ill in the past.

He stressed that many more will definitely stick, but we will probably not have the impact we have with Delta with hospital admissions.

Response to the “fire” received by his humorous post

Asked to respond to the reactions that emerged after the posting of a humorous sketch regarding his profile on a social media depicting the Virgin Mary wearing a mask on a donkey and Joseph, and gave a satirical dimension to the issue of non-compliance with the measures for Elias Mosialos stressed that “We must all contribute to the protection of human life, especially these Christmas days.”

He stressed that fundamental values of the Orthodox Christian faith are the value of human life, but also the value of the protection of human life.
