At 106 deaths from coronavirus, 127 intubated in the last week

The incidence of syncytial virus is decreasing – Which subvariants of Omicron are currently circulating in Greece

The weekly report on respiratory infections was published by EODY.

According to the results of the Report, the coronavirus is the one that prevails and causes deaths and intubations, while the flu cases seem to be slowing down, as the picture was almost the same as last week.

More detail:

Influenza syndromes (regardless of pathogen)
✓ a decrease compared to the previous week was recorded in the community
✓ the decrease mainly concerned the ages 15-64 and ≥65 years
SARS-CoV2 virus – COVID-19 infection
✓ the positivity in all the tested samples was at the same levels as the previous one
week
✓ the number of admissions for COVID-19 showed a decrease
✓ the number of new intubations showed a decrease
✓ the number of patients with COVID-19 infection who are hospitalized with intubation is 127
✓ 106 deaths were recorded with a median age of 85 years (range 64-98)
✓ the BA.5 sub-variant is still the most common Omicron sub-variant
✓ the percentage of the sub-variant BQ.1.1 increased compared to the rest of the sub-variants
of BA.5
✓ most frequent sub-variant of BA.2 remains BA.2.75 (45%), followed by sub-variant CH.1.1 (25%) and sub-variant XBB.1.5 (20%)
✓ surveillance of viral load in municipal wastewater showed increased circulation of SARSCoV2 virus in 5 out of 10 areas tested
Influenza virus
✓ flu positivity in the community has decreased
✓ no new serious case of laboratory-confirmed influenza was recorded, while
2 new deaths were recorded in the week of 05/2023
✓ from week 40/2022 to week 05/2023, 57 people were hospitalized with flu in
ICU and 19 deaths were recorded
✓ during the same period, 261 samples positive for viruses were recorded in the two influenza reference centers
influenza (sentinel and hospital samples), of which 256 (98%) were strains
type A and 5 (2%) were type B strains
✓ of the 255 type A strains subtyped, 244 (96%) were classified into the subtype
A(H3N2) and 11 (4%) in subtype A(H1N1)pdm09
