Despite his tender age, the ‘Dragon Prince’ is already preparing for a life on the throne

Joy for him “Dragon King” of Bhutan and his wife, beautiful queen jetsun, as their eldest son turned 7 years old. Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck, the world’s youngest heir to the throne, celebrated his birthday with his parents, 42-year-old Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and his wife, 32-year-old Jetsun Pema.

Despite his tender age, the “Dragon Prince” is already preparing for a lifetime on the throne. The adorable student is often found by his parents’ side on official outings and events.

Along with his two-year-old brother, Jigme Ugyen Wangchuck, the “Dragon Prince” is featured on the Bhutanese royal family’s Instagram and Facebook accounts, where thousands of followers eagerly await the latest royal family updates.

The king, who studied in America and completed a graduate program at Magdalen College, Oxford, is the eldest son of Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the fourth “Dragon King”, and his third wife, Tshering Yangdon. The former king has four wives and 10 children, meaning the current king has two siblings, as well as four half-sisters and three half-brothers.

King Jigme Khesar and Queen Jetsun Pema were married on October 13, 2011, the same year that Prince William and Kate were married. Both Jigme and Jetsun studied in England. In particular the young queen went to Regent’s College, where she studied international relations, psychology and Art History (like Kate Middleton).

“I have waited long enough to get married. But it doesn’t matter when you get married, as long as you marry the right person. I’m sure I’m married to the right person,” the Bhutanese king had told reporters about his young wife.

The couple – who attended Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September – are popular at home and internationally, with the king known as the ‘people’s king’. The king and queen’s families are also closely related: the king’s half-sister, Princess Eeuphelma Choden Wangchuck of Bhutan, is married to Dasho Thinlay Norbu, the queen’s younger brother.
