Fully vaccinated people, even with comorbidities, will have a milder disease than the Omicron mutation, stressed the Rector of EKPA Athanasios Dimopoulos, speaking to the main news bulletin of SKAI and Sia Kosioni.
“The data on the disease that Omicron causes at certain ages is not complete yet, but logic says that the fully vaccinated even with comorbidities will have a milder disease. “From cases reported to us in hospitals for people who were fully vaccinated, it seems that the disease is mild,” the professor explained.
It is important to see if Omicron protects us from the disease with the Delta mutation, as he said we see a de-escalation as in South Africa. He clarified that it is not yet known whether one can be re-infected with Omicron
A decisive role for the development of the pandemic in our country, said the professor that he will play the percentage of the medical nurse who will be out of service because he was infected.
Asked if there is a possibility of a large part of the population becoming ill and achieving herd immunity, he said that this would be a Tunisian scenario, but noted that there are countries in Asia-Africa with low vaccination rates where there is a risk of developing a new mutation.
He said the disease appears to be milder at younger ages and people who have been vaccinated, but unvaccinated, elderly people with co-morbidities are at greater risk. “We see it every day as 90% of ICUs are unvaccinated or inadequately vaccinated,” he said.
Regarding the reliability of the self-tests and the rapid tests, the professor underlined that they do not guarantee us 100%, on the occasion of Fauci’s statements, for this and as he said, he recommends more attention in view of the holidays. “If one has the slightest symptoms that are consistent with a common cold, think about Omicron and avoid contact with others”
