Mônica Bergamo: Doctors who advise Doria register discharge of hospitalizations and fear collapse in emergency rooms

by

The doctors on the committee that advises the governor of São Paulo, João Doria (PSDB), in the fight against Covid-19 are already following with concern the increase in the number of hospitalizations for respiratory problems in the state.

GOING UP THE SLOPE

This week, the average daily admissions reached 425 patients — against 277 two weeks ago. There is an expectation that they will continue to rise.

Of the total, 1/3 were confirmed as cases of infection by the new coronavirus — and another 2/3 are under investigation.

TRIAL

The tests, when completed, will tell you whether the respiratory complications were caused by Covid or by other respiratory viruses, such as influenza.

SUAVE

The perspective is that the curve of hospitalizations for influenza will cool down again in January, as the cycle of the virus epidemic would be shorter than that of the coronavirus.

SHOCK

Committee members are also concerned about a possible collapse in state emergency rooms.

SHOCK 2

They believe that the strong demand for patients with the flu or infected with the omicron variant of the coronavirus could clash with teams underpowered by these same diseases.
