Queiroga says that the main action against the micron is to expand vaccination

The Minister of Health, Marcelo Queiroga, said that the main action in the face of the growth of Covid-19 cases is to expand vaccination in Brazil. According to the minister, this should occur mainly in the North because the application of the second dose and the booster dose in the region is low.

“The main action is undoubtedly the vaccination campaign, increasing the booster dose. In some states where the second dose is low, it has to be increased, especially in the North region. I have spoken about this repeatedly and Brazil is witness”, highlighted.

Queiroga explained that the individual who does not have the complete vaccination schedule is more likely to develop severe forms of the disease. In Pará, for example, the folder has seen an increase in the number of hospitalizations and deaths.

As a result, the country reached 22,630,142 people infected with Sars-CoV-2 and 620,281 lives lost since the beginning of the pandemic. The explosion of cases occurs in the midst of the expansion of the omicron variant and after the holiday season in the country.

Recently, Queiroga had said that the ministry is preparing a contingency plan in case a new wave of Covid occurs in the country and puts pressure on the health system because of the ômicron variant..

He clarified that he has observed an increase in cases of Covid-19 in a scenario where the ômicron variant is already prevalent in Brazil.

In Brazil, the first case of infection with the Ômicron variant was announced on November 30th. The new strain already represents 92.6% of positive tests for the detection of Covid in Brazil, indicates a survey carried out by laboratories.
