Information regarding the sub-variant of the Omicron strain, 2 cases of which were also found in our country, was issued by EODY.
What he says in detail:
It was recently announced that a new subgroup (BA.2 or 21L) of the Omicron strain may be on the rise in some European countries and may be related to different properties of the virus.
To date, the majority of Omicron infections worldwide are caused by subgroup BA.1.
Subgroup BA.2 (or 21L) is part of the larger 21M group, as is BA.1.
To date there is no indication that the new subgroup has different properties. Consequently, there is no reason for citizens to behave differently. However, the recording and study of the data and characteristics of the BA.2 or 21L subgroup will continue.
In Greece the percentages of subgroup B.1 of Omicron have been estimated to be more than 90% in most regions. At present in Greece, 2 cases of BA.2 or 21L have been identified in travelers from abroad who have been tracked and are in isolation.
We call on citizens to adhere to the protection measures and to be informed about the vaccination instructions by population and age group, as well as to remain vigilant by conducting a test in the context that has already been announced.
