Directors and technicians of Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) have received more than 300 threats since the discussion about vaccinating children for Covid-19 came on the agenda.
The most recent attacks came after the agency gave approval to the application of Coronavac in the group of 6 to 17 years.
The agency has informed the Federal Police and the Federal Supreme Court (STF) about the threats.
The threats became more frequent after President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), who is a vector of misinformation about immunization, stated that he would expose the name of technicians from the body who approved the use of Pfizer doses in the 5 to 11 age range.
The head of the regulatory body, Antonio Barra Torres, told leaf at the end of December, Bolsonaro (PL) encourages threatening crimes against members of the body.
Bolsonaro even suggested that there were “interests” by Anvisa in approving the vaccines. Barra Torres, previously an ally of Bolsonaro, reacted and demanded retraction.
On Thursday (20), during the vote that released Coronavac to the youngest, agency technicians received a threat stating that “the price you will pay will be very high (sic)”.
“It’s a shame to see you who don’t even spare the little ones from crazy greed and mercenary interest, as a Brazilian I feel ashamed of you!! (sic)”, said the same attack, received by email.
On the same date, another person also cited a “price to be paid” for approving the vaccines in a threatening email.
“And the price to be paid will be terrible, I don’t want to be in your skin and I pray to God on behalf of everyone who has caused pain and suffering to their neighbor, remember if the neighbor can be within your family,” the message said.
The most recent attacks were revealed by the newspaper O Globo and confirmed by the leaf.
The agency has released the use of the Pfizer and Coronavac vaccine to minors. The first can be applied to the public over 5 years of age, while the vaccine distributed by Butantan is approved for the group of 6 years and over.
“Your place in Guantánamo is reserved for those who commit crimes against humanity. Wait (sic)”, said yet another threat, sent to the agency on the 18th.
This Saturday, President Bolsonaro again minimized the number of deaths of children from coronavirus.
“If you analyze, 2020, 2021, even in the coronavirus crisis, no one heard that they needed a children’s ICU. They didn’t have them. We didn’t have them. I don’t know any children going to the hospital. Some died? Yes, they died. But it’s an insignificant number and you have to take into account if she had other comorbidities as well”, he said.
According to data from the Influenza Epidemiological Surveillance System, from the beginning of the pandemic until December 6, 2021, there were 301 deaths of children between 5 and 11 years old by Covid-19 in the country.
The Minister of Health, Marcelo Queiroga, has encouraged the speech of a Bolsonarista wing against vaccination of children. SUS managers demand that Queiroga, in addition to acting in the purchase of doses, make a campaign to encourage the immunization of children.
