One question that is increasingly being asked is how many of them actually died of COVID-19 and not another health problem they had with COVID-19. In fact, this question is important for understanding the impact of the pandemic on society, but also for the future reflexes of the state in it.

With the Omicron wave, however, the question becomes much more difficult to answer, note the professors of EKPA. The rates of infection are so high that the chance of someone being admitted to the hospital or even dying while infected with a coronavirus is very high. In addition, the vaccination and booster program provides people with very high (95% +) levels of protection against death from COVID-19. “Therefore, it is likely that COVID-19 death statistics are currently overestimating how many people actually die from Omicron infection.”
Detailed analyzes of mortality as well as death certificate data are expected during this time period, so that we can answer the question with certainty, say the teachers. “In any case, all of us who draw up relevant certificates should now wonder twice whether our fellow man died because of COVID-19 or because of another disease while having COVID-19,” they conclude.
