Omicron – Where the 360 new cases are located in Greece, prevails in the mutations

by

The total confirmed cases of coronavirus with the mutated strain Omicron in Greece amount to 360, as announced by EODY.

At the same time, the cases of the Omicron sub-variant remain at 4 in total, after the 2 new cases that were identified in the Regional
Sections of Lassithi and Heraklion at the beginning of the week

Details of what the report says:

Completed by the National Network of Genomic Surveillance of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which operates under the coordination of EODY, the
genomic analysis in 406 randomly selected or targeted samples relating to the period 08 January 2022
until January 25, 2022.

From the control of 406 samples, a total of 401 samples with strains of special interest emerged (Variants
Of Concern – VOC).

Of the 401 samples with strains of special interest, the 360 relate to the Omicron strain and 41 relate to the Delta strain
(Table 3). One of the 41 Delta executives refers to the strain ΑΥ.4.2, which was detected in a domestic case in the Peripheral Unit
of Lesvos. Two of the 133 Omicron strains are related to strain BA.2, which were detected in domestic cases in the Regional
Units of Lassithi and Heraklion.

Since the launch of the National SARS-CoV-2 Genomic Surveillance Network, they have been tested in the territory as a whole.
46,016 samples from domestic cases. Of these, 41,544 come from random sample selection, 3,731 come from targeted
sampling or selection and for 741 samples the selection method is not available.

During the two months before January 25, 2022, a total of 7,769 samples of domestic cases had been tested in the territory.
Of these, 7,559 come from random sampling and 210 come from targeted sampling or sampling. Between
7,559 randomly selected samples in the territory concerning the two months before January 25, 2022, the two most frequent executives of specialist
of interest isolated are Delta at 70.35%, followed by Omicron at 29.63% (Table 4).

Among the 210 samples taken or selected in a targeted manner during the two months before January 25, 2022, 68.57%
concern the Omicron strain and 31.43% the Delta strain.

In addition, a total of 587 members of special interest or under surveillance or interest have been isolated from samples of imported cases, of which 334 relate to Delta, 119 to Omicron, 113 to Alpha, 7 to Mu, 6 to Beta, 4 to B.1.1.318 (Variant E484K), 1 in Eta, 1 in C.36, 1 in Kappa and 1 in B.1.1 (Variant E484K).

The evolution over time of the relative frequency of sequenced samples from random sampling per species of strains up to
week 02 of 2022 is shown in Chart 9, while additional temporary data are given for weeks 03-04.

For stakeholders currently in need of immediate control measures in the country, the geographical distribution
per Regional Unit is presented in Table 5.
