Brazil recorded 800 deaths from Covid and 152,973 cases of the disease, this Saturday (5). With this, the country reaches 631,869 deaths and 26,472,006 registered cases of Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.
Case and death data were updated for 26 states, including the Federal District. Amapá and Roraima did not register deaths in the last 24 hours.
Brazil recorded more than 1,000 deaths from Covid last Friday (4), with 1,074 lives lost. It was the highest value since August 17 of last year, when records showed 1,137 deaths. The record in a single day of cases occurred on Thursday (3), with 286,050 infections.
Moving averages of deaths and cases are rising. The moving average of deaths is at 747 deaths per day – a variation of 164% in relation to the previous 14 days – and that of cases is 174,933 infections (increase of 24%).
The statistical feature that seeks to smooth out variations in data, such as those that usually happen on weekends and holidays, is calculated by adding the deaths in the last seven days and dividing the result by seven.
The country’s data, collected up to 8 pm, are the result of a collaboration between Folha, UOL, O Estado de S. Paulo, Extra, O Globo and G1 to gather and disseminate figures related to the new coronavirus pandemic.
The information is collected by the consortium of press vehicles daily with the state Health Departments.
Vaccination data against Covid-19, also collected by the consortium, were updated in 17 states and the Federal District.
Brazil registered 1,009,025 doses of vaccines against Covid-19, this Saturday. According to data from the state health departments, there were 328,753 first doses, 109,405 second doses. In addition, 469 single doses and 570,398 booster doses were recorded.
In all, 166,927,017 people received at least the first dose of a vaccine against Covid in Brazil. There are already 150,934,583 people with two doses or one dose of the Janssen vaccine.
Thus, the country already has 77.7% of the population with the 1st dose and 70.26% of Brazilians with both doses or with one dose of the Janssen vaccine.
Even those who completed the vaccination schedule with both doses must maintain basic care, such as wearing a mask and social distancing, say experts.
The initiative of the consortium of press vehicles occurred in response to the attitudes of the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government, which threatened to withhold data, delayed newsletters about the disease and took information from the air, with the interruption of the disclosure of the totals of cases and deaths. In addition, the government has released conflicting data.
