Scientists and politicians’ stance against AstraZeneca “killed hundreds of thousands”, says Oxford professor

In the United Kingdom, almost half of the adult population has received two doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine against Covid-19.

It therefore appears to have saved more lives in the country to date than the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines combined. However, it is now almost not used by the National Health Service.

More than 37 million people in the United Kingdom have received a booster dose. Only 48,000 of them made AstraZeneca.

“They have damaged the reputation of the vaccine in a way that resonates with the rest of the world,” said John Bell, a professor at Oxford University.

“I think the bad behavior of scientists and politicians has probably killed hundreds of thousands of people and they should not be proud,” he said.

The vaccine of the British-Swedish pharmaceutical company, it was proposed not to be administered to people under 40 years of age due to the association of this drug with extremely rare blood clots.

The concern led many countries, such as Greece, to limit the use of this vaccine, but in the European Union a huge role was played by the company’s dispute with the European Commission over the delivery dates of the doses, regardless of any side effects of the drug.

Eventually the AstraZeneca vaccine, which unlike those of Pfizer / BioNTech and Moderna does not use pioneering mRNA technology but traditional coronavirus-inactivated vaccine technology, has been virtually left out of the population-enhanced dosing process.
