The National Medicines Organization, on the occasion of recent incidents of trafficking and use of uncertified injectable hyaluronic acid preparations for aesthetic purposes, points out that these are evaluated as category III (high risk) medical technology products, and receive a CE marking certificate after evaluation by a Notified Organization of the EU.

Their circulation in Greece is legal only if the outer packaging bears the CE mark accompanied by the four-digit identification number of the Notified Organization (e.g. CE 0123) and their circulation has been notified to the EOF.
He emphasizes how

• the use of injectable hyaluronic acid preparations must follow the information on the instructions for use of each product regarding the intended use, the correct way of use and the possible precautions that must be taken.

• the administration of the preparations in question constitutes a medical procedure and must be performed by a doctor with appropriate qualification and experience.
The EOF recommends that interested parties be sufficiently informed before proceeding with the application of injectable hyaluronic acid for aesthetic use, both about the preparation that is to be administered to them, and about the status of the person who is going to administer it, as if the conditions are not met above conditions the risk of serious side effects increases.
