The germicidal mask with the name VITER (Virus Terminator) was certified by the Hellenic Pasteur Institute. The control of microbial control load was carried out on January 19, 2022 in the Department of Quality Control of Vaccines, Drugs and Pharmaceutical Products of the Institute under the supervision of the head Dr. Ioannis Rambias and proved the reduction of the microbial load and consequently of the viral air load after the application of the mechanical air sterilization system Viter at a rate of 99.25% on average, at the maximum operating intensity of the device (FAN 3 – with mask) . During the quality control process the total microbial load was neutralized up to 100%.
The main feature of the VITER device is that it sterilizes both inhaled and exhaled air, so that if the user of the mask is an asymptomatic carrier of SARS-CoV-2, his colleagues, who are in the same place and use conventional measures, will not be exposed to the virus. protection. This ability of the mask to protect its user and at the same time to help reduce the viral load of the areas where it is used is a world original, which was patented (OBI no. 1010045).
The device was designed through the interdisciplinary collaboration of the Departments of Medicine of the School of Health Sciences and Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Polytechnic School of AUTh, headed by Orthopedic Professors Panagiotis Givisis and Electrical and Computer Engineers. E., in the context of AUTh partnerships with the private sector.
“The quality control report proved that the device neutralizes up to 100% of the microbial and consequently the viral load. He announced that under his scientific supervision, after the relevant approval by the scientific council of the Bodossaki hospital, the clinical study is expanded, which started last April with the donation of a device to the hospital and will now be extended to two groups of nurses and doctors. , the first of which will use Viter and the second the currently available passive protection against exposure to the virus. Already, however, according to Mr. Givisis, after communication with the commander of Bodosakeio Stavros Papasotiriou, “the first clinical application was completely successful, as the user of the mask in Bodosakeio, was the only one from the medical staff who did not get sick with covid-19 in recent months “.
