The city of São Paulo announced on the night of this Friday (11) the start of the application of two additional doses of the vaccine against Covid-19 for adolescents between 12 and 17 years old with immunosuppression.
According to the Municipal Health Department, vaccination will be even for pregnant and postpartum women in this age group.
The application of the fourth dose for immunocompromised people over 12 years old occurs after the recommendation of the Ministry of Health, last Wednesday (9). Before, the indication was to reinforce immunization only for adults in this group.
In adolescents, only Pfizer vaccines against Covid are applied, including for those who do not have immunosuppression.
According to the Ministry of Health, immunosuppressed adolescents who took the second one for at least eight weeks (56 days) are eligible for the booster. The second additional dose will be four months later (122 days).
In order to be immunized, this group needs to present proof of vaccination (physical or digital) and proof of risk condition (exams, prescriptions, physical or digital medical report or prescription), containing the doctor’s CRM and with up to two years of issuance.
In the case of adults, people with a high degree of immunosuppression from 18 years of age who took the first one at least four months ago can now receive the second additional dose, regardless of the immunizing agent applied.
On Monday (7), the ministry said in a technical note that there is not enough data for the application of the fourth dose of the vaccine in the entire population.
Governor João Doria (PSDB) said on Wednesday that São Paulo will adopt the new dose against the coronavirus even without approval from Health.
In response to Doria, Minister Marcelo Queiroga said that the priority of the federal government is the booster dose of the vaccine against Covid-19 and criticized the interference of governors and mayors in the discussion about the application of the fourth dose of the immunizer.
Queiroga said that there is no definition in the Ministry of Health on the subject and that the technical area is still evaluating the need to expand vaccination.
According to the Ricardo Nunes (MDB) management portfolio, 5.3 million people in the city of São Paulo have already taken at least one booster dose (third) against Covid-19. The number represents 57.7% of the target audience
