Started from March 12, the mass vaccination against measles – rubella – mumps to children aged 1-14, who live in Roma settlements within the administrative boundaries of the 6th Health Region (Peloponnese, Ionian Islands, Epirus and Western Greece).

The start of vaccinations in the specific areas was based on the epidemiological data on vaccination coverage against measles and is done in the context of the EODY’s actions to prevent the occurrence and non-dispersal of measles cases.

Vaccinations are preceded by information regarding both the procedure to be followed and the benefits of vaccination, which seem to be understood to a satisfactory degree, says the head of the EODY unit, found in Kato Achaia, Ilias Liantis.

“It is indicative that in the camp in Sageika we carried out about 100 vaccinations in one day,” he adds characteristically. In parallel with the action in Kato Achaia, EODY officials are providing information and training to the mediators who will take part in the intervention in the prefecture of Ilia, which will follow immediately after. Vaccinations within the 6th HYPE are expected to be completed at the beginning of April.

It is recalled that in EODY, as early as February 2024, by the decision of the Deputy Minister of Health, Irini Agapidakis and the initiative of EODY president, Christos Hatzichristodoulou, a measles working group has been established, under the coordination of the professor of Pediatric Infectious Diseases. member of the EODY Board of Directors, Vanas Papaevangelou.
