What tests can be submitted to the women who will join the program
As of today Monday, as announced by the Ministries of Health and Digital Governance, the first informational SMSs began to be sent to the beneficiaries of the National Program for the Prevention of Cervical Cancer. In particular, 119,800 female beneficiaries aged 21-29 in the prefecture of Attica receive the first SMS for free Pap tests, while the sending of the SMS will be completed on Tuesday, May 14.
Women, who have activated the immaterial prescription, will gradually receive the immaterial referral for the free preventive tests by text message (SMS). Female beneficiaries aged 21-65 who have not activated the immaterial prescription can, using their AMKA, go to any collaborating center in their area (public or private) and make an appointment for the exams, without any financial charges charge. Who is the program for and what does it include?
The program covers 2.5 million women aged 21-65 who have not been diagnosed with cervical cancer,
have AMKA, whether they are insured or uninsured, and offers the following preventive examinations free of charge:
ï‚· HPV DNA molecular test (for women 30-65),
ï‚· Pap test (for women 21-29),
ï‚· colposcopy and biopsy, for women with clinical findings, by a specialist physician
Apart from the exams, it includes a free vaccination against the HPV virus. The latter has been extended to boys, it is already covered for 2024, it will continue for the following years. Free repeat exams
The program has been adapted according to the latest scientific data to provide the possibility of re-examination for the women to whom it is recommended, who will of course be able to do the re-examination completely free of charge, according to the type of findings, as determined by the competent Committee of Public Health Experts.
The government is investing a total of over €200 million until 2025 for secondary cancer prevention programs, the majority of which comes from the Recovery and Resilience Fund.
