On the occasion of the spring European Examination Week 2024
European Screening Week, now in its 12th consecutive year, is a dynamic European campaign encouraging public and non-governmental organisations, communities and health structures across Europe to coordinate a week of free screening for HIV infectionthe Hepatitis B & C and other Sexually Transmitted Diseases.
The goal is to inform and raise public awareness of the benefits of early screening and effective linkage to treatment and health care, while respecting the principle of confidentiality.
THE National Public Health Organization (EODY) as a key pillar of the health system for epidemiological surveillance and disease prevention and with a clear awareness that Sexually Transmitted Diseases are a long-term and ongoing threat to public health, continues to strengthen its dynamic presence in the Community.
On the occasion of the spring European Examination Week 2024, EODY implements prevention actions for HIV, Hepatitis B and C and other Sexually Transmitted Diseases with the aim of limiting their spread and promoting sexual and reproductive health. Specifically, EODY will implement information, awareness and examination actions both in the community and at the EODY Sexual Health Center:
From Monday 20 to Friday 24 May, properly trained EODY staff will carry out a free, anonymous and confidential check using the rapid test method at the following points:
Metro University (in front of the Academy of Athens) EODY Mobile Unit, during the hours 09:00-14:00, rapid tests will be provided for:
– HIV/AIDS
– Hepatitis B
– Hepatitis C
– Syphilis
Athens Polyclinic, Piraeus 3, EODY Sexual Health Center, WITHOUT AN APPOINTMENT at 09:00-14:00,
rapid tests will be provided for:
– HIV/AIDS
– Hepatitis B
– Hepatitis C
– Syphilis
– Chlamydia
– Gonorrhea
The screening test will be accompanied by counseling before and after the examination (pre and post-counseling), information on sexual health issues, distribution of condoms and printed informational material, as well as raising awareness of the public to deal with stigma. All individuals detected as reactive to the rapid test will be linked to health facilities.
It is worth noting that according to the recommendations of the ECDC, the application of the combined test for HIV/Hepatitis/STD (Integrated testing) is proposed, which can also be achieved through the operation of the Sexual Health Centers. The aim is not to miss opportunities for examination, so as to increase early diagnosis and reduce the delays observed in the interface with treatment.
