The entire territory will be covered by the end of 2025 National Telemedicine Networkwhile in the same period it is estimated that the National Electronic Health File will also be completed, according to what the Deputy Minister of Health Irini Agapidakis mentioned, in her message that was shown in the thematic section “The value of primary health and the contribution of technology”, in 2nd Southeast Europe International Technology and Innovation Conference “The Future of Digital Health, Today”, organized today by Cisco’s International Center for Digital Transformation and Skills in Thessaloniki (DT&S).

“The program of the National Telemedicine Network it will be in full readiness at the end of 2025 and will cover the whole country. A large part has already progressed in the framework of the Second Ministry of Health and it is expected to be strengthened with further digital tools”, said Mrs. Agapidaki, explaining that this program enables people to be treated at home, zeroing out the health inequalities that due to geographical distance (mountainous areas, island areas).

“Three and a half thousand home care points will exist with the new National Telemedicine Network”, said Ms. The Minister, while regarding the Patient Doctor Telemedicine Stations (STIA) and the Doctor Consultant Telemedicine Stations (STIS), clarified that “they will be installed in all seven university Health Centers, which are being developed by the Ministry of Health and will be connected to each medical school of the country, because we want a faculty member, a university professor, to be in charge of the part of emergency medicine through telemedicine and to be able to provide timely, reliable consultation to his colleagues in matters related to emergencies, chronic diseases, that is, to be able to we have better support from our doctors, who are on the islands and in the remote areas in general.”

How to check the accuracy of AI medical opinions

Regarding the utilization of Artificial Intelligence tools, Mrs. Agapidaki pointed out that “we are building a framework for digital health data”, noting that the Ministry of Health is launching an important initiative, which she described as a “foundation stone” on which everything will be based the digital health ecosystem. “The prototype of the individual Electronic Health File is already working and the National Electronic Health File is on its way to completion, around the end of next year. This will enable us to have population data, which we can use to organize health services, to know e.g. in which areas do we have the greatest needs for cardiovascular prevention issues and in which ones for cancer prevention issues”, explained Ms. Minister.

He also mentioned that artificial intelligence will also be used in the evaluation of screening programs, such as the Fofi Gennimata program. “We’re going to at least sample it so we can get an evaluation, see how a doctor comes to an opinion and how the algorithm, so we can know the accuracy rates of these digital tools versus human clinical skills and clinical conclusion “, write down.
