Brazil records 206 deaths from Covid and more than 21 thousand cases in 24 hours

by

Brazil recorded 206 deaths from Covid and 21,731 cases of the disease, this Sunday (27). With this, the country reaches 649,195 deaths and 28,764,822 registered cases of Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Case and death data were updated for 23 states. Six states did not record deaths in the last 24 hours: AmapĂ¡, CearĂ¡, Pernambuco, Roraima, Rio Grande do Sul and Tocantins.

After two weeks above 800, the moving average of deaths is down at 690, down 22% from two weeks ago. The moving average of cases also dropped to 79,605 cases. Two weeks ago, that figure was 135,205 (a 40% reduction).

The statistical feature that seeks to smooth out variations in data, such as those that usually happen on weekends and holidays, is calculated by adding the deaths in the last seven days and dividing the result by seven.

The country data, collected up to 8 pm, are the result of collaboration between sheetUOL, O Estado de S. Paulo, Extra, O Globo and G1 to gather and disclose the numbers related to the new coronavirus pandemic.

The information is collected by the consortium of press vehicles daily with the state Health Departments.

Vaccination data against Covid-19, also collected by the consortium, was updated in 16 states.

The consortium of press vehicles recently updated the Brazilian population numbers used to calculate the percentage of people vaccinated in the country. Now, the data used are the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) projection for 2022.

All numbers are now calculated according to these values, including last year’s. Therefore, the percentages of people vaccinated may differ from the previously published figures.

Brazil registered 489,194 doses of vaccines against Covid-19 this Sunday. According to data from the state health departments, there were 60,890 first doses, 192,699 second doses. In addition, 964 single doses and 234,641 booster doses were recorded.

In all, 172,452,690 people received at least the first dose of a vaccine against Covid in Brazil. There are already 154,958,092 people with two doses or one dose of the Janssen vaccine. As for booster doses, 64,047,314 were applied.

Thus, the country already has 80.27% of the population with the 1st dose and 72.13% of Brazilians with two doses or with one dose of the Janssen vaccine, and 29.81% of the population with vaccine booster.

Even those who received both doses or one dose of the Janssen vaccine should maintain basic care, such as wearing a mask and social distancing, say experts.

The initiative of the consortium of press vehicles occurred in response to the attitudes of the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government, which threatened to withhold data, delayed newsletters about the disease and took information from the air, with the interruption of the disclosure of the totals of cases and deaths. In addition, the government has released conflicting data.
