EODY’s weekly report on the course of the coronavirus in the country
The positivity for SARS-CoV2 in the community continues to increase, as do the hard indicators (intubations, deaths), according to the epidemiological report of the EODY for the period 24-30 June.
A small decrease is observed in admissions, where from the huge increase they showed the previous week reaching 487 patients, in the last week we had 472 admissions.
F456L and R346T mutations also show an increasing trend.
Influenza-like illness – ILI (regardless of pathogen)
The number of influenza cases per 1,000 visits remains low.
Severe Acute Respiratory Infection – SARI (regardless of pathogen)
The number of SARI cases per 1,000 visits remains low.
SARS-CoV2 virus – COVID-19 infection
The positivity in all tested samples showed an increase compared to the previous week.
The number of new imports was 472.
The average weekly number of new admissions over the previous four weeks was 300, and the number of admissions in the corresponding week in 2023 was 182.
The number of new intubations was five.
The average weekly number of new intubations over the previous four weeks was three, and the number of intubations in the corresponding week of 2023 was four.
The number of intubated patients with COVID-19 infection is eight.
The number of deaths was 22. The average weekly number of deaths in the previous four weeks was eight and the number of deaths in the corresponding week in 2023 was 18.
The most frequent sub-variant of BA.2.86 remains JN.1, while strains of BA.2.86 with mutations F456L and R346T (new category of variant strains under monitoring since 4/6) were also detected in Greece, with the detection rate of shows an upward trend in recent weeks.
Viral load surveillance in municipal wastewater showed an increase in SARS-CoV-2 circulation in 6 of the ten areas tested, a decrease in one, and a stabilization in three.
Influenza virus
Influenza positivity remains low in both the community (PHC Sentinel Surveillance Network) and hospitals (SARI Surveillance Network).
No new serious case with ICU hospitalization was recorded, nor was there a new death from laboratory-confirmed influenza.
Respiratory syncytial virus – RSV
No positive samples were found in both the community (PHC Sentinel surveillance network) and hospitals (SARI surveillance network).
