The success rate in the European General Cardiology Examinations, for all countries, reached 74.6%, on average, while for Greece amounted to 82.3%which highlights the high level of education and scientific skills possessed by young Greek cardiologists.

The Council of European Exams in Core Cardiology determined for this year, based on the difficulty of the subjects and the performance of the examinees, as the threshold of a successful result, 63 of the total of 120 questions (52.6%).

More specifically, 51 people applied and 42 passed.

The five cardiologists with the highest rating from Greece, to whom the amount of their participation in the exams will be reimbursed by the Hellenic Cardiology Society, are:

  • Maria Kouremeti
  • Ioannis Botis
  • Calliope Perlepe
  • Dimitrios Miliopoulos
  • Maria Anna Basbani

Of particular importance is the fact that Mrs. Maria Kouremeti scored a score of 95.83%, which is the highest of the exams from all countries.

The European Exam in Core Cardiology (EECC) is a joint venture between the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), the Union of European Medical Specialists in Cardiology (UEMS-CS), participating National and Affiliated Societies of Cardiology and is also supported by independent academic supervision.

The main purpose of the European Diploma in Cardiology is to provide a broad, balanced and up-to-date examination of the basic cardiology knowledge that cardiology trainees and specialists are required to have in their subsequent scientific activity.

The president of EKE, Professor of Cardiology Mr. Giorgos Kochiadakis, on the occasion of the results of the European Diploma in Cardiology, says: “The results and the high success rate of young Greek cardiologists in the recent European General Cardiology Examinations make us proud and demonstrate the quality of the scientists who deal with cardiovascular medicine. The Hellenic Cardiology Society will honor the distinguished cardiologists at the upcoming Panhellenic Cardiology Congress”.
