The roadmap for the redesign of the provided health services of Rethymnon was submitted during the meeting that the MP of Rethymno, Giannis Kefalogiannis, had with the Deputy Minister of Health, Mina Gaga.
The proposal for the Rethymnon hospital has three main objectives, which concern, according to Mr. Kefalogiannis, “the immediate strengthening and development of the health infrastructure (energy upgrade – expansion and a new wing in the General Hospital of Rethymno and a modern urban structure of primary care health). The first steps to gain the vision for a new hospital realistic bases of implementation and the development of immediate shielding actions of the hospital with staff “. This is a proposal of a realistic and imperative package of interventions in order to ensure, as stressed, not only the basic and self-evident operation of the hospital but its immediate and substantial reinforcement in infrastructure and staff so that the citizens of Rethymnon are able to enjoy modern health services. .
The Deputy Minister of Health stressed that she will study the proposal and promised that all the maturation procedures regarding the energy upgrade of the hospital will proceed immediately and the possibility of building the new wing from the Recovery Fund or other financial tools will be explored. According to the proposal, a roadmap for the redesign of health services in Rethymnon highlights issues such as the immediate strengthening and development of health infrastructure, the new ward of the Rethymnon General Hospital and the energy upgrade of infrastructure and energy savings with the use of renewable energy sources. ».
At the same time, the focus of the planning is the integrated primary care and mental health, since as Mr. Kefalogiannis points out, “in Rethymno, a comprehensive intervention was never developed to create a strong primary urban structure and a modern secondary school but a combination that with the timeless understaffing led to the creation of operational problems and marginal service of the population thanks to the continuous efforts of the staff “.
It is also proposed the organization and operation of the PHC in the city of Rethymnon, given that it was pointed out that “in contrast to other cities in Crete, the primary health care structures in Rethymno, remained consistently understaffed and therefore failed to win the trust of the citizens, with the result that there is an accumulation of a volume of cases of primary care at the General Hospital of Rethymno “.
Finally, Ms. Gaga was presented with the long-standing request for a new hospital to be located in an area close to the suburban area, with developed transportation and easy access, both from the city and based on the modernized VOAK that will be upgraded in the coming years.
