The announcement immediately 50 nursing staff positions at the Rhodes Hospital, announced the Minister of Health Adonis Georgiadis, as part of his visit to the island of Rhodes.

The commitment that the Radiotherapy Center – which will be built at the Rhodes Hospital, with funding from the South Aegean Region – will be fully staffed from the first day of operation, was undertaken by the Minister of Health.

The Minister of Health met with the regional governor of South Aegean Giorgos Chatzimarkos, and then visited the Rhodes hospital where he discussed with representatives of the workers and doctors the specific problems that exist, the main one of which is the lack of staff.

The Minister of Health was accompanied on his visit to the South Aegean Region by Dodecanese MP Manos Konsolas, the commander of the 2nd Ministry of Health Christos Roilos and the commander of the Rhodes General Hospital, Stavros Tsantis.

Referring to Radiotherapy, after the meeting in the Region, Mr. Georgiadis, among other things, emphasized the following:

Now the Radiation Therapy Center is a reality. Funding is secured thanks to the Region and I as Minister of Health guarantee that the staff will be in place the first day they are ready to operate and stop the suffering of the patients of Rhodes and the Dodecanese in general. I believe that the Radiation Therapy Center will be a major intersection point in terms of health services provided to oncology patients in the area. The inconvenience is great when they need to go to Athens and we must do everything to eliminate this inconvenience. Ecological patients already have many problems, there is no need for the state to create more for them. I believe that a reasonable, realistic.

Estimated time from today for its operation is 2.5 to 3 years. I think this will be our biggest offer in the region».

The architectural upgrade

With regard to the projects that are currently being implemented in the NSS of the South Aegean, the minister stated:

From the Recovery Fund, we are currently executing projects of 18.2 million euros excluding VAT in the South Aegean Region. If we add to these funds, the NSRF funds that are already starting with the energy upgrade of the Rhodes hospital and the Leros hospital, plus the reconstructions in the health centers, is the biggest structural upgrade of the national health system since its establishment. And it’s happening right now. Yes there are problems and there is a shortage of human resources in many areas, but that does not mean that progress is not being made. And today, the situation in the NSS in the Dodecanese and in the South Aegean in general is better than five years ago».

The Rhodes Hospital

Regarding the Hospital of Rhodes, the Minister of Health stated that “in consultation with the Governor of the Hospital, we intend to proceed immediately with a very brave call for nurses, perhaps as many as 50, to definitively cover the problem that exists as quickly as we can” noting that the hospital is better than ever in terms of medical staff, but there is a lot of pressure on the nursing staff.” The Minister of Health, closing his briefing to journalists, referred to the size and specificities of the island area, saying that “for us at the Ministry of Health, insularity is a challenge”.

The digitization of the hospitals of the South Aegean

For his part, the regional governor Giorgos Chatzimarkos also referred to another project, that of the digitization of the seven hospitals of the South Aegean:

The result of our cooperation with the Ministry of Health, led to a new project and I believe that very soon we will be able to tender it. I am the digitization of the 7 hospitals of the South Aegean, a project that has been studied by the second Ministry of Health and we have looked for a funding source. We are in the final stage to get the approval from Brussels to support the Ministry of Health and the second Ministry of Health and in this fight for digitization, a project of about 12 million euros».
