Program agreement between the Ministry of Health and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (E.K.P.A.) for the preparation of the “National Cancer Action Plan” for the period 2024-2028, was signed by the Deputy Minister of Health Irini Agapidaki and the rector of E.K.P.A. professor, Mr. Gerasimos Siassos.

OR programming agreement aims to form a strategic action framework for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer in
Greece, as well as the strategic action framework for the development and implementation of palliative care. The development framework of the holistic action plan for Cancer in our country will be implemented with the participation of as many organizations as possible, including Civil Society and Patient Associations.

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, with millions of new diagnoses recorded each year. The development of the “National Cancer Action Plan” will help identify critical targets and create a comprehensive strategy that will improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the disease.

The signing of this program agreement confirms the commitment of the Ministry of Health and the E.K.P.A. for the strengthening of Public Health and the support of citizens against the disease of cancer. The National Action Plan will contribute to the effective treatment of the disease and create a safe environment for patients.

It is worth noting that in the context of strengthening prevention, the Ministry of Health promotes the National Prevention Program, “PREVENT“, which aims to provide free screening tests for breast cancer, cervical cancer, colon cancer as well as cardiovascular diseases. Through these programs, thousands of citizens have already benefited, highlighting the importance of preventive medicine in protecting public health.
