The accessibility of people with disabilities to health structures of the countryas well as the promotion of the necessary interventions to facilitate their daily life in public health systemwere the topics that occupied the meeting of the Deputy Minister of Health Marios Themistokleous with the president of the Panhellenic Association of the Blind, Dimitris Sifakis.

The meeting took place at “Andreas Syggros” hospital, on the occasion of today’s International White Cane Day.

Mr. Themistoclesemphasized the importance of equal access of all citizens to health services, pointing out that “today is a reminder of our responsibility to ensure dignity and equality in the care of people with disabilities by continuously improving health structures to be accessible and friendly to all».

He added that “in tfield of accessibility we have taken several steps but we can certainly organize more from now on for the visually impaired such as signs with the Braille system, but also route guides for better access totthe health units of the country».

Today’s visit, the deputy minister said, underlines the commitment of the Ministry of Health to support the rights of individuals in practice with disabilities and to enhance the quality of the services offered, respecting the diversity and dignity of all citizens.

World White Cane Day is a particularly important day for visually impaired people, because it marks their independence. Interventions have been made in recent years in the hospitals of our country and they continue, as the deputy minister informed us, with the construction of new hospitals that meet all the standards for access and service to people with any form of disability“, said the president of the Panhellenic Association of the Blind, Dimitris Sifakis.

At the meeting, initiatives and actions to improve accessibility in its hospitals were discussed National Health Systemsuch as the upgrading of infrastructure, the provision of appropriate equipment, and the training of staff, with the aim of more effectively serving people with visual and other disabilities.
