Understand where wearing a mask is still mandatory and where it is no longer in São Paulo

by

The government of São Paulo decided, on Wednesday (9), to end the obligation to wear masks in open environments, and the change was followed by the city hall of the capital.

In most spaces, the two administrations agree on the end of the requirement of masks in places such as squares and parks, or the mandatory use within public transport.

However, city hall and government butt heads when it comes to the use of masks in bus terminals. The management João Doria (PSDB) points out that the place should still require face protection, as well as train and subway stations. The Ricardo Nunes administration (MDB) says that the obligation at bus terminals has fallen, according to the decree.

Responsible for municipal terminals, the prefecture claims that, “due to physical characteristics, the capital’s bus terminals are considered open environments, and there is no obligation to wear masks within their spaces”.

Regarding airports, Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) said that municipal or state decrees dispensing with the use of masks do not affect the rules established by the agency, which requires the use of mask in areas of controlled access at airports, such as boarding, and also on aircraft.

Thus, taking into account the classification of the São Paulo City Hall, that open spaces are spaces where there are no restrictions, by walls or partitions, of air circulation or complete ventilation, and closed environments are those with physical limitations, by walls or partitions and ceiling, we list some places where the use of a mask is still mandatory and others where the user is free to not use face protection.
