This radiopharmaceutical is indicated for the treatment of adult patients with progressive prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA)-positive metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC).

All patients who need this radioisotope treatment, have the option to receive it for FREE at the “Metaxa” Specialized Public Cancer Hospital, as it is prescribed and fully reimbursed by EOPYY.

The Metaxas hospital, as an oncological-anti-cancer type, is the most suitable for the comprehensive treatment of the above patients and has all the required infrastructure and the necessary medical and nursing staff to achieve this goal.

The administration of the treatment is carried out in the Nuclear Medicine department, which has the appropriate relevant license from the Hellenic Atomic Energy Commission, as well as the required experience for the safety of the patient and the staff.

THE Governor of the Metaxas Hospital, Mr. Sarandos Efstathopoulos stated:

“The launch of the pioneering and highly targeted radiopharmaceutical treatment for prostate cancer in a Public Hospital – which will be provided completely FREE of charge to eligible oncology patients – is further practical evidence of the substantial strengthening of the National Health System and the best response to those who and they peddle science fiction scenarios about the dissolution or impending privatization of the public health!

This specific initiative is primarily due to the zeal and willingness to offer the medical, nursing and other staff of the Metaxas Hospital to provide increasingly modern and efficient health services, in combination with the exercise of good management, in order to ensure the corresponding funds required, for an otherwise expensive treatment.

It is worth mentioning that one dose of this treatment exceeds 20,000 euros, for this reason there are very strict selection criteria for the patients who will be included in this treatment, based on international protocols.
