A human case of the new clade 1b variant of the mpox virus has been identified in Brittany, France, according to Agence France-Presse

In particular, “tthe French Ministry of Labor and Health was informed of the first human case of Mpox clade 1b in the national territory, in Brittany. Recommended management measures have been implemented“, states the press release of the Ministry of Health.

“However, this person had been in contact with two people who had returned from Central Africa. Investigations are ongoing to establish the source of the infection and trace all at-risk contacts around the diagnosed case“, continues the press release, as quoted by BFM TV.

Mpox virus is a viral disease that is transmitted from animals to humans, but it is also transmitted by close physical contact with an infected person.

By 2022, the global epidemic, which is carried by clade 2, had spread to about a hundred countries where the disease was not endemic.
