Plevris: 90% of vaccination coverage for people over 60 after the fine – May return in September

by

The measure of enforcement administrative fine for those who are not vaccinated over the age of 60, it is not abolished, but it is suspended from April 15 and “in September, when we expect the NSS to be pressured again, the fine will return. The relevant provision leaves open this possibility “, said in an interview with ERT1 the Minister of Health Thanos Plevris.

The fine resulted in more than 250,000 of our approximately 560,000 unvaccinated fellow citizens over the age of 60 being vaccinated and the vaccination coverage of this vulnerable population exceeding 90%, the minister said.

He also noted that a fine of 300 euros has been charged until April 15 and explained that “when the fine we were in a phase of escalating pandemic and the NSS was overwhelmed. So it made perfect sense. “Now that we are de-escalating, we can suspend the measure, but we are not repealing it.”

The minister said that today we see the benefits of the measures of obligation and the increase of vaccination coverage.

He clarified, finally, that the de-escalation of measures is done gradually.

“We have made a comprehensive plan by the end of the summer and we will see how the pandemic moves. The placements and the evaluations will be made on this plan by the Committee of Experts based on the course of the pandemic and the government will take the final decisions “.

We are not finished with the pandemic, there is concern for the coming autumn, the minister said, emphasizing that “based on its course, we are escalating and de-escalating measures. Cases do not produce hospitalizations at the moment, so it would be dogmatic to stick to a tough model. “If these elements change, obviously this model will change.”
