The possible side effects from the administration of the third booster dose were mentioned by the president of the National Vaccination Committee, Maria Theodoridou, during today’s briefing on the National Vaccination Coverage Plan for COVID-19 disease.

As he explained because one factor that inhibits many for the vaccination with the third dose is the possible side effects, he reminded that the most common are simple, ie those that everyone has experienced with the vaccination of their children.

Typically, these are: Injection site pain, fatigue, headache, muscle aches, less often arthralgias lasting one to two days and easily treated with an antipyretic analgesic, low chance of swelling of the axillary lymph nodes 1-4 weeks and subsides without special treatment.

She stressed that the vaccines are effective for the Delta variant and safe and that the main pillar remains the two-dose regimen. He also pointed out that from the clinical studies the immunogenicity from the administration of the third dose was significantly higher than the second dose. He even referred to a possible different vaccination regimen with three doses and an annual booster dose.

At the same time, he noted that the vaccination committee is studying a third dose in people who became ill before or after the vaccination.
