Hundreds of thousands of supporters of the OPAP initiative for the renovation of the pediatric hospitals “I Agia Sofia” and “Panagiotis & Aglaia Kyriakou” participated in the actions of the “OPAP Offer Team”, in the context of the 38th Authentic Athens Marathon. In total, more than 300,000 participants used the application “Offer Team” and had the opportunity, for the seventh year, to contribute in a symbolic way to the important project implemented by OPAP, in the two largest pediatric hospitals in Greece.
From all the actions carried out this year, 3,058,328 offer points were collected, which OPAP automatically converted into financial support. This amount will be added to the total investment for the renovation of the two hospitals, which was launched by OPAP in 2014, as part of its corporate responsibility strategy.
The CEO of OPAP, Mr. Jan Karas, stated: “Top entertainment experiences are at the core of OPAP’s vision and strategy. The Authentic Athens Marathon is an amazing event, world-class, that combines sports and entertainment in the best way. That is why, at OPAP, we are very happy to participate in the Marathon for another year, through actions for all participants. During the difficult period of the pandemic, the great success of the Marathon sends a message of optimism and perseverance to everyone. So I would like to thank the organizers and the thousands of runners who took part in the races. Congratulations to everybody”.
The Deputy CEO of OPAP, Mr. Odysseas Christoforou, stressed: “For OPAP, the Athens Marathon is not only a great sporting event, but also a great celebration of social contribution. On the occasion of the Marathon, we invited the Greek society this year to participate symbolically, through the application “OPAP Offer Team”, in the project of renovation of the two largest pediatric hospitals in the country. The response of the people was moving, surpassing all previous ones. More than 300,000 of our fellow citizens used the application and OPAP will allocate an additional 3 million euros for this great social initiative “.
The Director of Marketing, Communication and Sponsorships OPAP, Mr. Giannis Rokkas, He noted: The Authentic Athens Marathon is an event with a global impact, which is a milestone for the Greek and international road movement. This philosophy is, after all, the basis of our sponsorship program, which has established OPAP as the biggest supporter of Greek sports over time.
At the two-day sports festival in Athens, on the weekend of November 13 and 14, OPAP was actively present, inspiring the runners with various actions. In addition, the “OPAP Supply Team”, through a heart-shaped portal on Herodes Atticus, continued to collect offer points for the renovation of pediatric hospitals. For each runner or passer-by under the gate of the “Offer Team”, OPAP adds one euro to the total investment for the renovation of the two hospitals.

OPAP started the renovation of the pediatric hospitals “Agia Sofia” and “Panagiotis and Aglaia Kyriakou” in 2014 and to date has completed 88% of the project. In total, 28 renovation projects have been delivered, including 21 nursing units, with a total area of 13,910 square meters and a capacity of 510 beds.
At the present stage, two new projects are in progress “. Specifically, a complete renovation and modernization of the 2nd and 4th floor of “Panagiotis and Aglaia Kyriakou” is taking place.
