Sandra Annenberg reports panic crisis during menopause: ‘a horrible thing’

by

Sandra Annenberg, 57, revealed to have faced a panic crisis by experiencing the first symptoms of menopause, a period she admits to knowing in practice, without enough information.

The episode took place as she covered the World Cup in Russia in 2018 and, she said, was only able to rebalance with the help of colleague Ana Paula Araújo, 53.

“I had a crisis, a horrible thing. It gave me a panic. I called Ana Paula crying. She said, ‘Calm down, breathes, will take a shower, which will calm me down. It was literally a help,” Sandra said in an interview with the “Menotalks” podcast, dedicated to discussing the climacteric and their impacts on women’s physical and emotional health.

According to the host of the “Globo Repórter”, the symptoms began unexpectedly. “One night, I woke up soaked, and I don’t sweat. I do gymnastics and not suo. I’m the darling of makeup artists, because I record on the street, with a rebate, sun, light, heat, and don’t come out a drop. But that night it seemed that I had come out of a sauna.” Guys, what’s going on with me? “

The moment was aggravated by the lack of information. Sandra said she couldn’t identify what she was feeling and even thought she had something very wrong with her health. “It was scary. No one warned me that it could be so, that this sudden heat, this sweat, this anxiety had to do with menopause.”

The journalist highlighted the importance of talking openly about the subject, especially among women who, like her, reach mid-aged still unprepared for this natural phase of life. “If I had listened before, I might not have gone through the suffocation I went through. We need to talk about it. It’s urgent.”
