Coronavirus: Absolute dominance of Omicron “show” new data on mutations

by

Absolute predominance of the Omicron crown strain is reflected in the latest data of EODY regarding the course of the pandemic in our country.

According to the data of the genomic analysis completed by the National Network of Genomic Surveillance of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, and operated under the coordination of EODY, the
genomic analysis in 487 samples randomly selected or targeted and covering the period 26 February 2022 to 03 April 2022

From the control of 487 samples, a total of 421 samples were identified with strains of special interest (VariantsOf Concern – VOC), all Omicron (B.1.1.529).

Three hundred and twenty-six of the 421 Omicron strains were related to strain BA.2 (77%, up from 69% last week).

Since the launch of the National Network of Genomic Surveillance of the SARS-CoV-2 virus until today, a total of 52,783 samples of domestic cases have been tested in the country. Of these, 47,811 come from random sampling, 4,231 come from targeted sampling or sampling, and for 741 samples no sampling information is available.

During the two months before 03 April 2022, a total of 3,900 samples of domestic cases had been tested in the territory. Of these, 3,734 come from random sampling and 166 from targeted sampling or sampling. Among the 3,734 randomly selected samples in the territory for the two months prior to April 3, 2022, the two most common stakeholders isolated are Omicron with 98.7%, followed by Delta with 1.3%.

Among the 166 samples sampled or targeted during the two months prior to April 3, 2022, 91% belong to the Omicron strain and 9% to the Delta strain.
In addition, a total of 678 members of special interest or under surveillance or interest have been isolated from samples of imported cases, of which 336 relate to Delta, 208 to Omicron, 113 to Alpha, 7 to Mu, 6 to Beta, 4 to B.1.1.318 (Variant E484K), 1 in Eta, 1 in C.36, 1 in Kappa, and 1 in B.1.1 (Variant E484K).

The evolution over time of the relative frequency of randomly sampled samples by strain species by week 12 of 2022 is shown in Figure 8, with additional provisional data for weeks 13-14 being provided.
