Renovation closes the emergency room of Hospital São Paulo for four months

by

The emergency room of Hospital São Paulo will be closed for four months for renovation, as of Monday (23). The other sectors will not be affected and will continue to operate.

The institution, which is located in Vila Clementino (south of São Paulo), is linked to Unifesp (Federal University of São Paulo).

According to SPDM (Paulista Association for the Development of Medicine), which manages the unit within the scope of the SUS (Unified Health System), the orientation is that patients seek the UPA (Emergency Care Unit) 24 hours closer to where they live. .

Cross (Central for Regulation of Health Offers and Services), the state agency responsible for outpatient and emergency medical referrals, should direct the demands to other hospitals in the city and in Greater São Paulo.

According to Sandra Campos, the hospital’s technical director, the unit receives between 400 and 800 patients daily. The R$ 8 million for the renovation was released by the government of São Paulo on an emergency basis.

On April 25th, Governor Rodrigo Garcia (PSDB) signed an authorization for a transfer of BRL 58 million to Hospital São Paulo — BRL 50 million for funding and BRL 8 million for renovation. The hospital, which has a debt of BRL 450 million, receives around BRL 22 million per month in federal and state transfers and spends, on average, BRL 30 million.

Sanitary, comfort and accessibility adjustments will be made, respecting the updating of current regulations, in order to guarantee greater safety and quality of services.

“The renovation of the PS at Hospital São Paulo includes the renovation of the electrical, hydraulic and gas networks in the generator area, in addition to separating the child and adult entrances, among other adjustments necessary to comply with current health and safety standards”, says Nacime Mansur, director-superintendent of the HSP/HU Unifesp.

“This building was opened in 1972 and until mid-1978, 1979 it functioned as an outpatient clinic. It was built to be an outpatient clinic, when the PS was transferred there. The building also has an old structure. So, it was necessary and important to do this updating and adapting to current health standards. The patient will have better assistance and the professional will have a more functional environment to provide this assistance”, says Sandra Campos.

The report questioned the Municipal Health Department of São Paulo about the strategy that will be adopted to avoid overloading the UPAs due to the closure of the PS at Hospital São Paulo, and the state ministry to explain about the guidance given to Cross, but received no response until the closing of the text.
