(News Bulletin 247) – Veolia has won a contract for integrated waste management in Gold Coast, Australia’s second-largest local authority and sixth-largest city.

With an initial term of 7 years, the contract provides for extension options to 18 years, which would represent nearly 500 million euros for the total duration of the contract.

This new contract combines the management of facilities, recovery and collection, and will optimize the implementation of current infrastructures across the entire waste treatment value chain.

Veolia will operate five of Gold Coast’s main recovery facilities, including three landfills and recycling centers, as well as two non-hazardous waste storage centers.

The objective is to significantly increase the current recovery rate, starting with an initial increase of 5% by 2025, i.e. 330,000 tonnes of additional household and organic waste.

Veolia will thus enable the city to avoid more than 77,000 tonnes of carbon emissions, which is the equivalent of removing more than 47,500 combustion engine vehicles from its roads.
