(News Bulletin 247) – BAE Systems announces it has signed a ‘strategic agreement’ with Microsoft to support faster development, deployment and management of digital defense capabilities in an increasingly data-centric world.

This collaboration combines BAE Systems’ knowledge of building complex digital systems for military and government with Microsoft’s approach to application development through the Azure Cloud platform.

As air, land and sea platforms face ever-changing threats, their digital systems must therefore be regularly updated to recognize and counter them, the partners say. In this context, the cloud could make it possible to accelerate the deployment of software on operational military platforms.

‘Modern fighter jets, for example, can require up to 24 million lines of code to operate efficiently, so using the cloud to deploy updates could speed up the process and help maintain a competitive edge over adversaries’, emphasizes BAE.
