(Reuters) – Carmaker Tesla, led by billionaire Elon Musk, has cut prices for some of its Model Y and Model 3 electric vehicles in the United States for the sixth time this year, its website showed. late Tuesday afternoon.

The company, which is due to present its results for the first quarter on Wednesday, lowered the price of the Model Y Long Range and Performance versions by 3,000 dollars (about 2,739 euros) and that of the Model 3 Rear Wheel Drive by 2,000 dollars, to reach 39,990. dollars per vehicle.

Since the beginning of the year, Tesla has reduced the prices in the United States of its original versions of the Model 3 and Model Y by 11% and 20%, respectively – price cuts it has also agreed elsewhere in the world. after starting to lower its tariffs in China in January.

The moves come as the United States, Tesla’s biggest market, prepares to introduce tougher measures that will limit tax credits for electric vehicles.

The aggressive price cuts have raised concerns that the Austin, Texas-based company’s profit margins are the best in the industry.

In early April, Tesla reported a much smaller sequential rise in first-quarter shipments than in the prior quarter, up 4% from 17.8%.

Tesla is expected to report a 24.2% year-over-year increase in first-quarter revenue to $23.29 billion, according to the average analyst estimate compiled by Refinitiv.
