(News Bulletin 247) – ArcelorMittal announces cooperation with Velux Group as part of the latter’s efforts to halve value chain emissions by 2030.

The companies will now work together to reduce the carbon footprint of the steels used in Velux roof windows with the aim of reducing embedded CO2 by up to 70% (depending on the type of steel product used) compared to steel conventionally produced.

‘Cooperations like these will enable the decarbonisation of our products and we look forward to seeing the positive impact on our products and on our company’s carbon emissions’, explains Jesús Villalba, Senior Director in charge of Group Direct Purchasing. Skylight.

ArcelorMittal recalls that its XCarb® flat steel is produced from a minimum of 75% scrap metal and 100% renewable electricity. It will now be tested in larger volumes at a Velux factory in Gniezno (Poland) to see how it performs in hinges and brackets.

In parallel, Velux and ArcelorMittal will work together to reduce the carbon footprint of the steel used in certain other roof window components.
