(News Bulletin 247) – The American chemist DuPont announced on Tuesday that it was going to buy Spectrum Plastics Group for 1.75 billion dollars, thus signing a new foray into a high-growth sector.

The Wilmington (Delaware) group indicates that it has reached a definitive agreement to acquire this manufacturer of special plastic products in high value-added niches, such as medical, food and industrial applications.

He emphasizes that the operation is perfectly in line with its strategy to strengthen its position in specialized materials and attractive markets.

Spectrum works with 22 of the world’s 26 largest medical device manufacturers, including in areas such as structural heart disease treatment and surgical robots.

“We have been interested in Spectrum for a long time and our teams are extremely excited about this opportunity,” said Ed Breen, CEO of DuPont.

After the transaction, which is expected to close in the third quarter, DuPont is expected to derive around 10% of its revenue from the healthcare sector.
