(News Bulletin 247) – Nokia today announced the results of its new research report, the Nokia MEA Mobile Broadband Index, which provides an overview of the mobile broadband landscape in the MEA region.
5G data traffic overtook 3G for the first time in Q4 2022, driven primarily by 5G growth in GCC countries.
The new report highlights the faster adoption of 5G in the GCC countries (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and United Arab Emirates), compared to the rest of the MEA region. 5G subscribers are expected to reach 75% by 2027, driven mainly by Saudi Arabia.
The in-depth report highlights the steady growth of 5G in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region along with its impact on digital transformation. It confirms that the Middle East is far ahead of Africa in terms of 5G adoption.
5G is expected to increase steadily and contribute to mobile broadband subscriber growth, which is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6% in the MEA region. According to the report, 4G networks in the MEA region now account for 79% of global data traffic, and by 2027, 4G and 5G together will account for 90% of data traffic.
In the same year, the number of 4G subscribers will reach 1,214 million (53% of total subscribers), while the adoption of 5G is estimated at 380 million subscribers (17% of total).
