MOSCOW (Reuters) – Drones on Wednesday attacked two refineries in the Krasnodar region, near one of Russia’s top oil-exporting ports, causing a fire at one but no damage at the second, according to the Russian authorities.

A first attack targeted around 01:00 GMT the Afipsky refinery and caused a fire that was subsequently extinguished, according to the governor of the Krasnodar region, Veniamine Kondratiev.

The refinery is located 80 km east of Novorossiysk, a Black Sea port through which a large part of Russian crude production passes, and very far from the front line with Ukraine.

The other attack targeted the Ilsky refinery, located about sixty kilometers from Novorossiysk, according to the Ria agency, which quotes local officials.

The Ukrainian army has been increasing attacks in depth for several weeks to disrupt the logistics and supply of the Russian army before launching a vast counter-offensive aimed at retaking as much territory as possible.

However, Kyiv never officially claims the attacks carried out on Russian territory.
