With the phrase “in addition to being picturesque, they are also dangerous”, the prosecutor of the seat of the Three-Member Criminal Appeal Court of Thessaloniki requested the guilt of the 11 accusedmembers of the self-proclaimed group “Guardians of the Constitution”for the unprecedented incident of the kidnapping of the High School principal, in December 2021, in Aeginio Pieria, due to the measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus that he implemented at the school.

Assessing the totality of the evidence and justifying his proposal legally, the Appellate prosecutor requested that the defendants be declared guilty of joint illegal detention (on conversion of the indictment from robbery), gang, disruption of public service, violation of measures to avoid transmission infectious diseases and as the case may be for bodily harm and breach of personal data (due to mobile phone video recording of their actions).

The high school senior suffered “humiliation”, was “hostage” in the car, as he was “under the arbitrary power of the accused”, said, among other things, the public prosecutor, while speaking of “paranoia” and “graphics” which continued in the judicial room. “This “dangerous criminal” had to be handcuffed to take him to the police station,” he commented during his speech, analyzing for each one of them his participation in the disputed case.

The process continues with the purchases of the defense attorneys and the verdict of the judges will follow.

According to the indictment, the defendants immobilized the suffering director at the moment he arrived at the school and after handcuffing him, they forcibly took him to the Aegini police station, where they were finally arrested. Three of them are temporarily held in prisons, while among those referred to trial is a retired EL.AS officer.

They themselves, in their apologies, admitted that they were present at the incident but denied the actions attributed to them, giving their own version of the reason for their presence at the school. Some spoke of “curiosity”, some of “the school’s demand”, but the common denominator was their opposition to the current measures for the coronavirus. One of the defendants apologized and blamed the media for exaggerating the incident and exploiting it in favor of the measures.
