PARIS (Reuters) – Air India has confirmed its order for 250 Airbuses and 220 Boeings worth $70 billion at list prices, the airline said on Tuesday at the International Air and Air Show. Paris-Le Bourget area.
Air India’s order for Airbus includes 140 A320neo and 70 single-aisle A321neo as well as 34 A350-1000 and six A350-900 widebody aircraft.
The Tata-owned airline has signed separate purchase agreements with the two manufacturers for aircraft and certain services. It follows that passed the day before by the Indian company IndiGo with Airbus for 500 single-aisle aircraft.
The confirmed orders come as Tata plans to pour billions of dollars into new investments to modernize Air India’s fleet. The company is seeking to improve its services and expand its national and international network in order to regain the market share it has lost.
“Our ambitious fleet renewal and expansion program will see Air India operating the most advanced and fuel-efficient aircraft across its network within five years,” said Campbell Wilson, chief executive of Air India, in the press release.
