(News Bulletin 247) – Lhyfe announced on Tuesday the signing of a 20 million euro grant agreement with the European Commission aimed at supporting a hydrogen production project that it has been responsible for coordinating.
The project – called ‘Hope’ – consists of developing, building and operating by 2026 a production unit with a capacity of 10 MW in the North Sea, off the coast of Belgium.
Its objective is to demonstrate the technical and financial viability of this ‘offshore’ project and of pipeline transport in order to serve land customers (‘onshore’).
The idea, according to the French group, is to take hydrogen production at sea to a large industrial scale.
According to Lhyfe, the first kilos of hydrogen could be produced as early as 2026 to supply mobility needs and small industries in Belgium, northern France and southern Netherlands, within a radius of 300 km .
In addition to Lhyfe, the consortium includes eight other partners, including the Portuguese EDP, the French CEA and the Swedish engineering group Alfa Laval.
The announcement comes as the Seahyfe project, its world’s first offshore hydrogen production pilot, has produced its first kilos of green hydrogen offshore in the Atlantic Ocean.
The title Lhyfe reacted little to this information Tuesday at the Paris Stock Exchange, yielding approximately 0.5% in the middle of the morning.
