BEIJING (Reuters) – China on Monday called on the United States to take “concrete steps” in response to its “major concerns” over U.S. sanctions targeting Chinese companies.
The request, made by the Chinese Ministry of Finance in a statement, came after US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, visiting Beijing, wrapped up several hours of meetings with senior officials.
If Beijing agreed to “maintain high-level exchanges and communication at all levels in the economic field”, it is indicated in the press release, it also “demanded” from Washington that it “stop the suppression of companies China, lift bans on Xinjiang-related products and take concrete steps to address China’s major concerns in economic relations between the two countries.
The United States has taken sanctions against certain Chinese companies which it accuses of using forced labor in the Xinjiang region in western China. Beijing denies these accusations and claims to respect human rights.
