(News Bulletin 247) – Lockheed Martin announces that the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) validated the initial operational capability of its DCS (Dry Combat Submersible) last month.

According to Gregg Bauer, vice president at Lockheed Martin, DCS has the potential to transform underwater warfare for special operators.

This small submarine allows special forces teams to travel long distances under the surface of the ocean in complete safety, without diving suits, and without exposure to the elements.
“Occupants arrive at the mission warmed, rested, hydrated and ready, which makes this ship a key advantage for mission success,” Lockheed said.

Additionally, Special Operators can also enter and exit the vehicle while fully submerged and undetected.

DCS is designed to transport a special operations team to their destination, allowing and enabling personnel to arrive unobtrusively at the desired exit point.

“We look forward to delivering the third DCS and sustaining the DCS to full operational capability, filling a critical gap for USSOCOM,” added Jason Crawford, senior program manager Manned Combat Submersibles at Lockheed Martin.
