(News Bulletin 247) – IBM announced on Tuesday that it was going to sell its weather forecasting analysis subsidiary The Weather Company to the investment fund Francisco Partners for an amount that has not been disclosed.
The American technology group specifies that the scope of the operation will include, among other things, media activities and mobile and Internet applications such as Weather.com, Weather Underground and Storm Radar.
The transaction must also include professional information activities aimed at sectors such as aviation or industry.
The Weather Company, whose audience exceeds 415 million individuals each month, also has a portfolio of corporate clients made up of more than 2,000 references.
In a statement, IBM said it plans to keep its activities in sustainable development and ESG criteria, which allow companies to measure their environmental performance.
The company had acquired The Weather Company in 2014, with the objective of strengthening its activities in the Internet of Things (IoT), and in particular its Watson platform.
The sale should be finalized by the end of March 2024.
