PARIS (Reuters) – The government is threatening to order the recall of iPhone 12s sold in France if Apple does not reduce the wave emissions of this device, deemed excessive by the National Frequency Agency (ANFR), declares the delegate minister in charge of digital, Jean-Noël Barrot, in an interview published Tuesday by Le Parisien on its website.
The daily reports that the ANFR announced to Apple on Tuesday that it would ban the marketing of the iPhone 12 in France due to this problem of emitting electromagnetic waves above the authorized threshold. The agency gave the American group fifteen days to correct this problem.
“(This) involves a simple software update,” declares Jean-Noël Barrot to Le Parisien, according to which “the iPhone 12 only very slightly exceeds the standard”.
“I have confidence in the company’s sense of responsibility to comply with our rules. (…) If it does not do so, I am ready to order the recall of the iPhone 12 in circulation,” adds -he, specifying that the measure taken by the ANFR is “a classic procedure which has already concerned many devices” but never Apple.
The minister also announces that the ANFR will transmit its data to other countries of the European Union.
Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
